This Sunday sees the launch of the Clayton-Le-Moor’s only Junior Football Club.
Clayton le Moors has been identified as a deprived area and benefits from Neighbourhood Management as part of the Housing Market Renewal program funded by Elevate.

Clayton le Moors Neighbourhood Management Board identified that Clayton-Le-Moors desperately needed a children’s football team as until now youngsters from the area have had to travel out of town to join a team. The Neighbourhood Management Board have therefore provided funding for local volunteers to establish Clayton Park Rangers Junior Football Club and Local housing association Eaves Brook sponsored the kit so that the players have a brand new team strip.

Clayton Park Rangers Football Club welcomes children from 6 to 16 years old, and so far an impressive seventy children have become members! All coaches have been trained by the Lancashire FA, and they host weekly training sessions and involve all their members by rotating players, giving all children the opportunity to play matches on a regular basis. The Club philosophy is – ‘playing as a team is important- winning is a bonus’.

All club members will be presented with a medal and a certificate at Sunday’s launch, and a raffle will take place to win prizes including a Nintendo Wii, a signed shirt from Blackburn Rovers FC and other footballing merchandise from Manchester City FC and Accrington Stanley FC, who are all keen to support the youth initiative.

Clive Hart, Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer for Eaves Brook commented:

“We saw this as a tremendous way to benefit the whole community, promoting inclusion and teamwork. It’s important that young people are given the opportunity to get fit and become involved in sporting activity, and the health benefits are well documented.”

He adds:

“ It’s not too late to join the club; we’re always looking for players!”
