An awards ceremony organised by the West Cumbria Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnership was held on Friday evening at Whitehaven Civic Hall to honour local heroes.

Members of the public were recognised along with the local police and other agency staff for their contributions towards tackling antisocial and nuisance behaviour in West Cumbria’s neighbourhoods.

Ten local residents were recognised by the Taking A Stand Awards, as it was felt unfair to select just one winner out of the number of fantastic members of the public who help make the community safer and more peaceful for others.

Other winners on the evening were:

Most Effective Partnership
West Cumbria Antisocial Behaviour Team

Best Innovative Idea
PC Hodkin, PC Stone, Mark Smith and Alan McDonald from West Cumbria Constabulary for the Young Persons Guide to Antisocial Behaviour.

Problem Solving Award
The Night Safe Initiative

Most Improved Department/Organisation
Workington Children’s Centre

Commitment to Tackling Antisocial Behaviour

Leadership Management Award
