> D & S Out Of School Club-Mont Runner Up
Keswick Out of School Club has won a runner up prize in the 2007 Montgomery Awards, receiving £1,000.
The club provides after school care for children from 4 – 7 years old. The children are picked up from school, taken to the club where they receive a snack meal and are provided with a range of activities until 6pm when they are collected by their parents.
The club allows parents to take full time work and education, and is lead by fully qualified childcare workers. It relies a great deal on grants, of which there is a short supply. The winnings will ensure that there is funding for the club to continue to stay open, and maintain its reputation for supplying childcare at the highest level. The money will contribute towards supplying snacks, activities, trips away, equipment, toys, and so on.
Both tenants and Harvest Housing staff nominated the individuals or groups who they felt had made an invaluable difference to their neighbourhoods.
Robert Porter, Director of Derwent & Solway Housing Association, who supports The Keswick Out of School Club, said:
“The Keswick Out Of School Group provides a security and support network for children and parents within the community. Children can learn, relax after school, and have fun with their friends. It suits the needs of children with working parents, and they thoroughly deserve their prize.”
The Montgomery Awards are organised by Harvest Housing Group to recognise those groups or individuals who have made a real difference to the lives of others within all of their communities and neighbourhoods. The awards have now entered their 3rd consecutive year, and are named after former Chairperson of Harvest, Lady Joyce Montgomery, who is now a Patron.
