A local neighbourhood group has been rewarded the runner up prize in Harvest’s 2007 Montgomery Awards for their fight against antisocial behaviour in their community, receiving £1,000 for future projects.
The Keeling Road Neighbourhood Group represents a complex of twenty-four older people’s bungalows. Six months ago the residents were experiencing antisocial behaviour, parking problems, dog fouling and a lack of community space. Moorlands Housing helped to set up the Keeling Road Neighbourhood Group and since then, they have had the initiative to enlist the help of PCSO’s, the fire and rescue service, the Scouts and local Councilors to improve their community.
The winnings will go towards buying two benches for the residents to relax and chat in their fresh surroundings.
Both tenants and Harvest staff nominated individuals or groups who they felt had made an invaluable difference to their neighbourhoods.
Bob Duncalf, Managing Director from Moorlands Housing, said:
“The change this group has made in only six months is exceptional. They have created a new community space, and the quality of life for the residents has significantly improved.”
The Montgomery Awards are organised by Harvest Housing Group to recognise those groups or individuals who have made a real difference to the lives of others within all of their communities and neighbourhoods. The awards have now entered their 3rd consecutive year, and are named after former Chairperson of Harvest, Lady Joyce Montgomery, who is now a Patron.
