Derwent & Solway Housing Association, a member of Harvest Housing Group, is starting work on the latest of its projects to revitalise some the most deprived areas of West Cumbria.
The regeneration project in the Grasmere Avenue area will be part funded by the Furnance and West Cumbria Housing Market Renewal scheme, run by West Lakes Renaissance.
The scheme will see the demolition of a number of run down terraced properties and the creation of a series of better quality semi-detached homes. The completed houses will then be sold. A number of other properties and areas will be landscaped and improved through the scheme.
Robert Porter, Director of Derwent & Solway said,
"This is an important project for the continued regeneration of Workington, delivering the right homes in the right places, creating areas where people want to live and are proud to live."
David Atkinson, Managing Director of Thomas Armstrong (Construction) who has won the contract to deliver the works said,
"This is an exciting project for our company to be involved with. We are locally based and we see the continued regeneration of West Cumbria to be important for our company both in terms of the well-being of our workforce and the economic growth that regeneration brings."
The contract works are due to start on site at the beginning of November. A short information and consultation session is being held about the project at the Moorclose Community Workshops on 29th October at 5-7pm, although all residents directly affected by the scheme have been individually consulted in the run up to a start on site.
